I’ll admit that part of why the app frustrates me is that it’s kinda cool. Another reason that many of us are frustrated—and that’s arguably a sign of the app’s success—is that the community was once smaller, more savvy and more enjoyable and Quidd items were much more attainable; that’s *one* reason because it speaks to the nature of things when something like Quidd is rolled out. Quidd will tell you what’s great about the app—not all of which I disagree with—but since they refuse to own and address the issues, it’s incumbent on their users to let you know.
The biggest complaint many of us have is the incessant and disingenuous push for money. I think Quidd thinks we should be dropping $5+ a day—and one easily could, and still not keep up. But the most repeated topic of the app’s notifications these days is “special” offers (“just for you”, to receive a “gift”, to get early access to a new set, etc.) to drop 5, 10 or 50 dollars on coins.
Along with that, the odds on attaining items have steadily gotten worse.
TapJoy is both a major investment of time, and as often as not a complete waste of time, because it doesn’t pay out.
As for the functionality itself, it’s gotten better, but still limited:
- stickers really only work among iMessage users, so any of your non-iOS friends won’t get the full impact and will likely see something that doesn’t look at all like what you intended (since they won’t see positioning or, as far as I’ve seen, the animation of gif stickers)
- Pops are pretty much worthless (i.e., all you can do is look at them in the app or take a two-dimensional screen shot)
- minis and Dorbz are even more grotesquely stylized corruptions of what they’re ostensibly meant to represent
- the showcase has gotten a little better, but still offers only one font, which is nearly unreadable and definitely ugly; and the showcase is still very limited
That’s probably enough for now. Mainly, as I said, the unattainability of items and the incessant demand for actual cash are what bother me. Quidd went from being one of the better apps in terms of its cost and soliciting to one of the absolute worst. It all feels like it was a dirty trick.
